SFC Engineering Partnership, Inc.,

Senior Structural Engineer Linda McNair-Perry, P.E., SECB
Receives 2012 Engineer of the Year

SFC Engineering Partnership, Inc., (SFC) is proud to announce that Linda McNair-Perry, P.E., SECB has been selected by a jury of peers, from New Hampshire’s engineering societies, as the 2012 New Hampshire Engineer of the Year.

The Structural Engineers of New Hampshire (SENH) nominated Ms. Perry for the award based on the Linda McNair-Perryquality and depth of her professional work, volunteerism in the engineering community, and her mentoring of structural engineering students and recent graduates.  Linda is along time member and past president for SENH and the Board’s Liaison with the UNH Civil Engineering Department. She also is currently onthe State Building Code Review Board.

Since graduating from Carnegie Mellon University, she has enjoyed a 31 year career in the field of structural engineering, which has allowed her to design everything from a truss bridge in Vermont to amusement rides around the globe. The new seven-story Hollywood Slots Hotel in Bangor, ME, and the renovated waterfront restaurant Latitude 43 in Gloucester, MA, were among the many buildings structurally designed by Ms. Perry. For several years in the early 1980’s she wore a hardhat while working in construction support at Seabrook Station, often having to answer the question “why would a woman chose engineering as a profession?” Her answer was “why not?”

More recently and on a smaller scale, Ms. Perry assessed the dock in Center Harbor for the heavy loads expected during the engine changeover on the Mount Washington. Linda, in conjunction with SFC, provided pro-bono work to assess the damaged homes in Epsom when the tornado of 2008 hit New Hampshire. She was able to draw upon her volunteer NH Reservist training she received for evaluating structures after windstorms.

Whether the projects were large or small, Linda worked hard to meet the needs and expectations of the clients while makingsure the tenets of good structural engineering practice were met. That same energy and teamwork has also been evident in her personal endeavors.

Ms. Perry has been active in Deerfield during the 25 years she has resided there with her husband, Bob, and where they raised their daughter, Jennifer. Linda served on various building study committees, was active in her church, and now serves as treasurer for a local political committee. In her spare time she enjoys researching the family’s genealogy.
