Retaining Wall at Branca Residence, Shrewsbury, MA

SFC Engineering Partnership, Inc., (SFC) was asked to provide engineering services for the construction of a retaining wall at a residence on Coachman Ridge Road in Shrewsbury, MA.

The home owners had a small backyard that sloped down to the neighboring property. The home owners wanted to maximize the amount of level area in the backyard. This necessitated the construction of a large retaining wall. The wall was 321 feet long and up to 21 feet high.

The scope of services included designing the retaining wall, preparing a construction control affidavit, observing the construction on a periodic basis and preparing a final report. Construction of this retaining wall took place during one of the snowiest winters on record, which slowed progress. In the end, the home owners were very pleased with the results.
